Caitlin McColl Covington (born July 8, 1990)[1] is an American blogger and social media personality. She is best known for running her fashion and lifestyle blog Southern Curls & Pearls, and for being the face of the viral Christian Girl Autumn meme. As of October 2020, Covington has over 1 million followers on Instagram, and over 50 thousand followers on Twitter.

Early life[edit]

Caitlin McColl Covington was born July 8, 1990 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Roy and Carla Covington. She was also raised there.[2] She graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism.[3] During her time in college, she wrote for the website Greatist,[4] and she joined Kappa Delta sorority.[5] Shortly after graduating, she moved to Greenville, North Carolina, where she worked at a public relations firm.[6]

Career[edit]

Covington started her blog, Southern Curls & Pearls, in her junior year of college. At the time, she had no motive to blog full time, and only saw it as a way to creatively exhibit her writing skills, and to document her college and sorority experience. She kept her blog after graduating, and ran it on the side while working full time in public relations. She started to fall in love with blogging, and noticed that her audience was rapidly growing. After a couple of years, she left her public relations job and began blogging full time. On Southern Curls & Pearls, Covington writes about her life and her many interests and hobbies, such as fashion, fitness, beauty and wellness. Her blog has become a major destination for finding retail sales, and also hosts book reviews.[7]

On August 2019, a photo featuring Covington became viral after a Twitter user posted it with the caption "Hot Girl Summer is coming to an end, get ready for Christian Girl Autumn."[8] From there, she became the face of the Christian Girl Autumn meme, and thousands of users across multiple platforms use it to post their own jokes and comments about the fall season and White, Christian women. Covington took everything in good spirit, she loved the meme and jokes that came along with it, but she also hoped the meme would help debunk some assumptions about her, based on how she looks.[9]

Personal life[edit]

Covington is a Christian.[10] She has admitted that because of the attention she's been receiving due to her blog, she's struggled with anxiety and depression.[11] She's since adapted different ways to take care of herself, such as meditation and yoga.

Covington married her longtime boyfriend, Christopher Dorsch, on June 2, 2018.[12] The couple first met just days after Covington graduated college and moved. Together, they have two cats[13] and one dog, a goldendoodle.[14] On July 19, 2020, it was announced that Covington and Dorsch were expecting their first child, a girl.[15]
