Cal & Co. is a morning radio show on 89X (88.7 CIMX-FM) in Windsor/Detroit and is heard weekdays from 5:30AM – 9:00AM. The show has been on since November 27, 2012 and consists of Cal Cagno, Rusty Thomson and Sarah Jean.

Staff[edit]

Cal Cagno (host)[edit]

Cal was born and raised in Royal Oak, MI. He attended Royal Oak Dondero High school and he studied broadcasting at Central Michigan University. He has been with 89X since 1999. Cal has been married to his wife, Wendy, for 13 years and has two children. He also owns a 1964 Pepsi glass bottle vending machine in his house. Before mornings, he previously worked the 3-7PM shift for five years before taking over mornings in November 2012![1]

Rusty Thomson (co-host)[edit]

Rusty was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but raised on a farm in Parry Sound, Ontario. He started working in radio when he was still in high school. Rusty joined 89X’s sister station AM 800 CKLW in September 2000 and made the move to 89X in November 2012. He's a movie lover and a hockey nut. His father Floyd Thomson played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues.[2]

Sarah Jean (co-host/social media director)[edit]

Sarah Jean is a native of St. Clair Shores, MI. She earned her degree in Public Relations at Wayne State University and began working at 89X in the promotions department. She then joined Cal & Co. in May 2014. Sarah Jean is passionate about yoga, wine and all things social media.[3]

At 7AM it’s wacky news pertaining to the great state of Florida.

"Hollywood X-Posed"[edit]

At 6:20AM it's the inside scoop on what’s going on in Hollywood and entertainment.

"Dirty Little Secret"[edit]

At 7:20AM and 8:20AM Cal & Co. reveal and rate "Dirty Little Secret's" submitted anonymously from listeners.[5]

"Is It White Trash?"[edit]

At 7:50AM on Wednesdays, Cal & Co. decide if the things they and their listeners do are white trash.

"Tough Love With Siri"[edit]

Siri will tell you what she really thinks because she doesn't have feelings and doesn't care about yours either![6]

89X's 'Chill On The Hill'[edit]

Cal & Co. presented the first ever "89X's 'Chill On The Hill'" in October 2013. This two day event at Freedom Hill Amphitheater in Sterling Heights, MI featured:
Day 1: A Day To Remember, Pierce The Veil, All Time Low, and The Wonder Years.
Day 2: Thirty Seconds to Mars, Billy Talent, Biffy Clyro, and New Politics.

Cal & Co. Beer[edit]

In November 2013, after a month of online voting to determine a style, The Cal & Co. Black Cherry Porter was unveiled at Rochester Mills Beer Co. in Rochester, MI. The beer had a hint of black cherry with a robust porter taste and sold out in 3 days.
