Call Me Kevin/CallMeKevin

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Kevin O'Reilly (born 1993/11/10), more commonly known as CallMeKevin, is an Irish-Scottish YouTube content creator with over 2 million YouTube Subscribers and over 400 thousand subscribers on Twitch (as of 2021). He makes highly satirical videos on video games (mostly).

Life

Kevin was born in Cork, Ireland. As a child, he had two health problems (stomach ulcers and ear congestion). Besides his health issues, Kevin had an average childhood and average grades. When Kevin was in secondary school/high school, due to stress, his stomach started to hurt, causing him to miss some schoolwork. While he was ill, he picked up a hobby playing video games on his Xbox as a distraction from the pain. In 2008, he discovered YouTube because of the gaming community on it. He got a capture card and started recording videos. Machinima noticed his skits and started to pay him to record skits for them. These skits weren't profitable at first, then he made a series called How To Annoy, which started to make a lot of money. His stress-induced stomach pain was too painful for him to continue going to school, and he and his parents agreed to drop him out. This was the point when Kevin's YouTube channel started gaining more views and subscribers after recording Minecraft videos. He got partnered on YouTube around 66,000 subscribers. When he was 18, he moved to Scotland for a few years, and then moved back to Cork, Ireland. A year and a half after he moved back, he felt that his YouTube channel was starting to die. He started playing with the idea of running a second-hand video game store because he felt that being near others would help his mental state. He took interviews for a British technology franchise named CEX. They didn't at first take him too seriously because of his age (19), but despite that, he opened his CEX store. For the next three years, he would work there until he was struck by a car returning from a movie theatre. Afterwards, he had many injuries. The worst injury was to his arms, causing him to not be able to reach the shelves at his store. This lack of control caused him a lot of stress, which meant that he had to pay employees more, making the business unprofitable. He couldn't make money due to the medical bills, and the person who assaulted him refusing to pay his medical bills. He sold the business back to CEX and couldn't work anymore. In the boredom, he created a new YouTube channel named CallMeKevin. Then he made a few YouTube videos for entertainment. He managed to support himself via Patreon, then his YouTube grew substantially due to an Ouija board video in 2017, making it a profitable career.

YouTube Career

In 2008-2009, Kevin first discovered YouTube and began watching gaming videos on it to kill time. Then he got a capture card from his parents and started recording videos of the games he was playing on YouTube. He also started to do skit videos, which Kevin describes as bad on his original channel. This caught the attention of a now-defunct channel called Machinima. They hired him for his skits. His parents thought that it was a scam, but Kevin pressured them into letting him do it. He started to make skit videos for Machinima, getting paid a very low amount by them, making only 100€ in three months. Then he created a show for Machinima called How To Annoy, where Kevin basically followed people around and annoyed them. The series became quite popular, and Kevin started making a fair amount of money for a teenager his age. He continued to upload videos onto YouTube. Most videos at this time were of a game called Minecraft. At this time, the channel grew a lot, making it seem like it could be a valid career for Kevin. YouTube partnered him somewhere around 66,000 subscribers. In Scotland, he lived next to a technology store called CEX, where he bought a PS2, PS2 games, and Xbox games. He felt that his YouTube channel was going downhill due to the lack of work ethic, so he opened a store and stopped making YouTube videos for three years. After a car accident, Kevin was unable to work conventionally. In the boredom, he recorded a couple of YouTube videos for entertainment on his new channel called Call Me Kevin. He then abandoned his old channel, asking people to subscribe to his new channel, and 300 people did, which kept him motivated when he was only getting 6-30 subscribers a day and made him feel like he had a purpose in life. At this point, he made most of his money via Patreon. Then, in 2017, his channel grew a lot because of an Ouija video that Kevin isn't that proud of. YouTube recommended that video to a lot of users, and then started recommending a lot of his other content to the users. His channel kept slowly growing and still is to this day (as of 2021). Some notable Call Me Kevin videos include "CallMeKevin Draw My Life" and the Sims4 "Sims4 with Jim Pickens" (Jim Pickens is a very notable character to appear in many other series). Friends who appear in Kevin's videos include RTGame, Jacksepticeye, Daithi De Nogla, Terroriser, Kiwo, and M4ango.
