Calvin Lo (Chinese: 盧啟賢) is a billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist from Hong Kong.[1][2]
Career[edit]
Calvin Lo is the heir and the chief executive officer of R.E. Lee International,[3][4] a family-owned life insurance brokerage firm founded in 1954,[5] offering business succession and estate planning services to businesses and ultra high net-worth individuals.[6][7] It is estimated that Lo's group places US$1 billion of premiums annually.[8] Lo is also the founder of R.E. Lee Capital,[9] an asset management firm with US$8 billion under management.[10][11][12]
In September 2019, Lo bought over Taiwan's most luxurious hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Taipei, one of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group properties for US$1.24 billion (NT $38.5 billion).[13][14][15]
Wealth and philanthropy[edit]
In 2019, Forbes estimated Lo's personal net worth at US$1.7 billion[16][17] and is ranked 43rd richest person in Hong Kong.[18][19] In 2019, public filings show that Lo has set up different charitable trusts in the Cayman Islands worth US$245 million for his philanthropic initiatives.[20][21][22]
To help with the Covid 19 relief efforts in 2020, Lo donated US$5 million,[23][24] 500,000 masks, and 35,000 boxes of sanitizers to help with the underprivileged in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and US$8 million to the hard-hit province of Wuhan.[25][26]
Lo was a board member of the Jane Goodall Institute from 2006 to 2018,[27] and advocated the well-being of animals, the community and the environment.[28][29]
Lo is Asia's largest purchaser and collector of French champagne and spent US$230 million for his collection in 2018.[30]S He is a hyper-car collector and owns the rare Pagani Huayra BC.[31][32] Lo is also one of Asia's first owner of the private jet, Gulfstream G650.[33]
