The Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association / Association pour l'Intelligence Artificielle au Canada (CAIAC) is a research organization dedicated to promoting education and research in the area of Artificial Intelligence and all related disciplines in Canada.

History[edit]

The Canadian Society for Computational Studies of Intelligence / Societé canadienne pour études d'intelligence par ordinateur (CSCSI/SCEIO) was created in 1973 for the purpose of organizing together Canadian AI researchers and of representing the Canadian AI research community to governments and the public.[1][2]

In 1985, CSCSI/SCEIO sponsored the creation of the Computation Intelligence scientific journal, published at Wiley.[3] The journal is still published today, and is one of the leading international journal in the field of artificial intelligence.[4]

In 2008, the society renamed itself to CAIAC.

Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence[edit]

CSCSI/SCEIO hosted the first Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 1976 at the University of British Columbia. This conference was held biennially until the year 2000, when it became an annual event.[5]

The conference uses a double-blind peer-review process. Until 2020, its proceedings were published by Springer; in 2021, it switched to an open-access model. The conference is ranked B by ERA and ranked B1 by Qualis.[6]
