Canjelae Taylor
Canjelae Taylor (born May 2, 1990), known professionally as Canjelae, is a Bermudian singer, songwriter, and performing artist. She is widely regarded as one of Bermuda's most prominent musical exports.[1] At age 11, Canjelae was discovered by American actress Robin Givens and became the first Bermudian to star in an off-Broadway theatrical production, appearing in the celebrity-studded cast of Joy in the Morning. She later studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2019, she was selected as an Apple Music Discovery Artist,[2] and was featured by music publication Ones to Watch for her single "Wordplay".[3] She has released music internationally across R&B, soul, and pop genres.
Early life
Canjelae Taylor was born on May 2, 1990, in Bermuda. She demonstrated a passion for performance from an early age, singing in church and entering local and international talent competitions, which she won.[1]
At age 11, she was discovered by American actress and producer Robin Givens, who cast her in the off-Broadway production Joy in the Morning, a celebrity-studded theatrical show. Taylor became the first Bermudian to star in an off-Broadway play, marking a significant milestone in her early career.
Education
Canjelae attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the most prestigious music institutions in the world. During her studies, she honed her craft as both a vocalist and songwriter. While at Berklee, she began working in professional recording environments, including sessions at Akon's studio in Atlanta, Georgia, and spent time between Atlanta and Los Angeles pursuing her music career.[1]

Early career
Canjelae's professional music career began developing while she was still a student. She performed at venues ranging from church pulpits to concerts for Bermudian government leaders. She has credited her Bermudian roots as a core part of her artistic identity, consistently describing herself as a "Bermudian Born International Recording Artist."[4]
During her time in Atlanta and Los Angeles, Canjelae made notable industry connections. She has written songs recorded by other major artists; one of her compositions was performed by Chris Brown at a BET Awards after-party.[1]
2019–2020: Cave Covers and international recognition
In March 2019, Canjelae released her single "Someone Else," her first major single release, which received coverage in Bermudian news outlet Bernews.[5] That same year, she was selected by Apple Music as a Discovery Artist, a program highlighting emerging talent with significant commercial potential.[6]
In 2020, she released her debut album Cave Covers, a ten-track project spanning R&B, soul, and pop. The album included several singles:

In 2021, Canjelae released "Wordplay," a collaboration with American R&B artist TK Kravitz, expanding her profile beyond Bermuda. The single was covered by music publication Ones to Watch.[9] She has also been featured on the soundtrack of the British film The Intent 2: The Come Up (2018).
In October 2023, she was officially recognized in the Parliament of Bermuda Senate Hansards in connection with an arts and culture event, underscoring her status as a cultural representative of Bermuda.[10]
As of 2026, Canjelae has announced an upcoming project described as "The Tide Is Coming 2026" on her social media platforms, along with plans for a "CC Deluxe Tour."[11]
