CarVertical Vehicle History Report is based on a vehicle’s VIN number. They are 17 digits and contain a mixture of numbers and letters that provide information about the vehicle’s location of assembly, the model year of the vehicle, and which plant assembled the vehicle.

Typical Data in a carVertical report

CarVertical report includes things like the vehicle’s service history, potential mileage rollback, whether the vehicle has had multiple owners, common faults of each model, whether the vehicle experienced hidden damage, historical photos of the vehicle, theft records, and other information.[7] A sample carVertical report is available on their website.[8]

Sources of Information

CarVertical’s data is accumulated from various global services. According to the company, some of these global services include national and private registers, insurance, leasing, claims to handle databases, and paid APIs. The company also relies on data from police databases in order to discover whether a particular vehicle has been stolen or previously involved in a law enforcement incident.[9]

However, the readers are not allowed to obtain certain information per the United States law. According to the 1994 Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (18 U.S.C. § 2721 et. seq.), certain personal information (like names, telephone numbers, addresses (except for the five-digit zip code), driver identification numbers, the driver’s photograph, social security number, and medical or disability information) in connection with a motor vehicle record is not available.[10]
