Carina Serfontein

Carina Serfontein (née Hattingh) is a South African politician. A member of the Hattingh family, her career has mostly focused on local politics in the Free State.

Life

The daughter of Democratic Alliance veteran party official Chris Hattingh and his wife Ina, Serfontein has worked as a teacher,[1] an activist and a politician in the Ngwathe municipality of the Free State province.

She has held office as deputy chair of the provincial DA,[1][2][3] and has also been a DA constituency chair for Ngwathe, Mafube and Metsimaholo and a councillor in the Ngwathe municipal council, the latter office being one she currently occupies.[4][5] Serfontein is also currently a seconded councillor in the Fezile Dabi District Council, where she has served on a mayoral committee.[6] In 2026, she was named by her party as its candidate for mayor of Ngwathe in the elections that were slated to take place in that year.[7]

Serfontein is married to Lucas Serfontein, a farmer. They have two sons together.[1]
