Reader left school early to begin his career as an apprentice hairdresser under the UK Government's Youth Training Scheme,[1] before returning to school to complete his GCSE exams.[2][3] Following a brief stint working at a supermarket, he fell into a career as a trainee accountant.[4] After training in accountancy, he performed a management buyout of his company,[5] which he now serves as Chairman.[6] Reader also co-founded TaxGo[7][8] in 2017. He was formerly Affiliate Chairman[9][10] of the British Franchise Association, followed by becoming a board member in December 2016.[11][12] Reader became an ambassador of Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed in 2017.[13] In 2020, Reader became the Chair of the Practitioners Panel[14] of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Media
Reader has contributed to and written columns for a number of national newspapers, magazines and trade journals as a business adviser including the Daily Mail, The Sun, Daily Mirror, and Marie Claire,[15] and is often interviewed for comment on matters relating to small businesses.[16][17][18] Reader contributed a chapter to The Daily Telegraph Business Guide to Brexit[19] (published by Kogan Page). He was also the resident business adviser[20] for the Daily Express, actively engaged a social media following[21] of circa 160,000 and is a regular speaker on business matters.[22][23]
