Carlos Mercado (born Sept. 27, 1999 in Laredo, Texas) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for the USL Championship club San Antonio FC.

Youth, college and amateur career[edit]

Carlos Mercado joined the MLS FC Dallas academy team in 2014.[1]

Mercado made his United States U-18 National Team debut on Oct. 25, 2015. He also earned call-ups to the Mexican Youth National Team at the U-16 and U-18 levels.[1]

Carlos attended college at the University of Incarnate World, playing for the Cardinals in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.[2]

As a freshman, Mercado started and played in all 15 games, generating 57 saves over course of the season. In his sophomore year, Mercado started and played in all 16 games, resulting in a saving percentage of 0.722.[3]

Professional career[edit]

In 2018 Mercado took time off from playing collegiate soccer to play in the USL League Two for the Des Moines Menace.[4]

Carlos joined the NPSL team Laredo Heat or a brief period in 2019.

Mercado signed with San Antonio FC prior to the 2020 USL Championship season. He started and captained in San Antonio FC's friendly international matches against Queretaro and Pumas in 2021.[5]
