Carlyle Arthur Campbell
Carlyle Arthur Campbell (November 28, 1894 – July 11, 1977) was a teacher and college president in North Carolina. He was the 2nd president of Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Biography[edit]
Carlyle Campbell was the son of Campbell University founder, James Archibald Campbell. His older brother, Leslie, also became a college president, serving Campbell College in Buies Creek, North Carolina in that capacity. Carlyle Campbell was a 1911 graduate of Wake Forest College and was an earlier graduate of Buies Creek Academy, the forerunner of Campbell University. He died on July 27, 1977.[1]
Education[edit]
His preparatory education was at Buies Creek Academy and he received A.B. and M.A. degrees from Wake Forest College in 1911 and 1916, respectively. He also studied at Columbia University during the period 1920–23. The University of South Carolina awarded him the honorary LL.D. degree in 1929 and Wake Forest did the same in 1950.[2]
