Carson Garrett (born 10 December 2001) is an American aerospace engineer and reality television personality.[1]

Background and early life[edit]

Garrett was born in Rome, Georgia. He obtained his diploma at Rome High School.[2] He furthered his education in Georgia Institute of Technology,[3] completing both his bachelor's and master's degree in aerospace engineering, aeronautics, and astronautical engineering.[4]

Garrett, who was the student government president,[5] was named the salutatorian of his high school's 2020 class.[2][6] He was also a semi finalist at the National Honor Society annual scholarship competition in the same year.[7] He is a receipent of the National Student Volunteer Award 2022.[8]

Career[edit]

Garrett is a NASA aerospace engineer, working at NASA Johnson Space Center. He began his career as an intern in NASA.[9]

Survivor[edit]

Garrett was the youngest contestant on Survivor 44. He excelled in social, strategic, and puzzle competitions of the show. His preparation method for the show drew attention to him as used 3D printing to create and practice Survivor puzzles at home before the show. He kept his training method secret from other contestants.[10] Also in preparation for the show, he also gained 30 pounds of muscle in 3 months in order to make his body able to keep up with the physically demanding aspect of the show.[11] He was still a student of Georgia Tech when he went on the show.[12]

During his time on the show, Garrett had close friendships with fellow contestants Carolyn Wiger and eventual winner, Yamil "Yam Yam" Arocho.[13] He participated in the show as a member of the Tika tribe, characterized by its purple color. Garrett won two individual immunity challenges and reached the finale episode, but ultimately lost in a fire-making challenge to Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt, finishing in fourth place and one day short of the Final Tribal Council.[14] He was tipped to win if he made the final three, according to former Survivor contestant Ron Clark.[15][16]

Sia hosted a house party for three contestants from Survivor 44, Carolyn Wiger, Carson Garrett, and Lauren Harpe, with Garrett already being a fan of the musician.[17] Sia also gave out $15,000 to Garrett for his performance on the show.[18][19]

Personal life[edit]

Garrett was raised by his great-grandparents and has two sisters.[20] His great great-grandfather, whom he calls his biggest inspiration,[21] also worked at NASA as a chief engineer at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.[21][22]
