Catherine Mary Bauer (née Cotter; born September 1, 1929) is an American actress. She is best known for providing the voice of the character Perdita in the Disney animated film One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961).[3]
Life and career[edit]
Bauer was born Catherine Mary Cotter in New York City in September 1929[4][5] to Irishman James J. Cotter[6] and Lucy J. Cotter,[7] an Englishwoman.
Her early roles included Martha in a 1951 stage production of The Life of Christ at the Oakland Civic Auditorium in Oakland, California.[8][9] In 1959 she appeared in the television series The Third Man, playing the character of Miss Hidwick in the episode "How to Buy a Country". Her most famous role however, came from voicing Perdita in the 1961 animated Disney film One Hundred and One Dalmatians.[10] She replaced Lisa Daniels in that role when Daniels got married and left after she had completed one-third of the film. Disney officials considered Bauer's voice to be the closest available match to that of Daniels.[11]
She married Karel Miroslav Bauer in 1953. As of 1996, Bauer was living in Seattle, Washington.[12]
