From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Kingdom of Northumbria (654–954) is taken to mean Northumberland, the northernmost county of England, as well as County Durham and Tyne and Wear. [1]

The folklore of England's North East and the Scottish Borders have been connected for centuries partly because the two were connected under the Kingdom of Norþanhymbre or Norþhymbre (Northumbria) and then kept changing between England and Scotland, and partly because of cross-border contact. The border between England and Scotland is thought to be largely political rather than cultural. [2]
