Company history
Cathar Games was officially founded in 2017 but has roots going as far back as the late 2000s[2]. It is an indie game developer and outsource studio located in Quebec, Quebec[3]. Cathar was started when its founder, took on various small engineering, design and business consulting contracts[4]
In 2017, Cathar made headlines by winning the Indie of the year's best upcoming indie game at the IndieDB Awards under the simulation category with the entry 'The Whaler'[5][6]. The game was developed in partnership with Trym Studios.
Sometimes prior to 2021, the company also adopted 'Mythcarver Games' as a secondary business name for some of its co-productions:
Mythcarver was prominently featured during Wholesome Direct in 2022[7][8][9] due to their involvement with 'A Frog's Tale', an indie project that raised $108,351 through Kickstarter for its demo version[10][11][12] partnering up with AJ Norman. The demo was delivered to the backers in March 2023.
Mythcarver was also involved with the development of the indie game Cereal Killaz.[13][14][15]
In 2024, the founder was interviewed by Radio Canada (the french counterpart of the CBC)[16] following a story on unionization in the video games industry.
