In 1980, several members of Catholics Act for ERA including Maureen Fiedler and Dolly Pomerleau physically chained themselves to the front of the Republican National Committee's headquarters.[1]

Women's Fast for Justice[edit]

In 1982, a group of women fasted at the state capitol in Illinois to raise awareness for the ERA. This event was known as the Women's Fast for Justice. Participants included Catholics Act for ERA member Sr. Maureen Fiedler as well as notable feminists Sonia Johnson[2] and Zoe Nicholson.[3] Dick Gregory visited the fasters to lend his support and participate in the fast.[4]

During this protest, Sr. Fiedler was quoted as saying, "...it is the first time a group of Bishops has banded together to urge the ERA to be adopted before the June 30 ratification deadline."[3]

Publications[edit]

In 1980, members of Catholics Act for ERA produced a series of brochures supporting the amendment. One of the brochures was titled "Reverence for Life Means Reference for Equality."[5]
