Kirtida Gautam is an author, born and raised in India, currently living in California, the USA. She is known for her debut novel I Am 16 I Can Rape: The War AGAINST Rape Culture.[1]

Early life[edit]

Kirtida[2] was born and brought up in Vadodara, Gujarat.[3] She graduated from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda with a master's degree in Clinical Psychology. Later, she studied Screenplay Writing from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune under the mentorship of the renowned Indian screenplay writer Anjum Rajabali.[4]

Career[edit]

In 2010, Kirtida wrote a television show Dharampatni[5] for DJ's Creative Unit. From 2012-15, she was working as a story writer for the Balaji Telefilms[6] show Jodha Akbar (TV series).[7] I Am 16 I Can Rape: The War AGAINST Rape Culture[8] is her debut novel. The novel challenges the juvenile justice system of India[9] and raises voice against the growing rape culture[10][11][12] in India.

Inspiration[edit]

The book I Am 16 I Can Rape: The War AGAINST Rape Culture,[13] is psychological thriller that is inspired by 2012 Delhi gang rape[14][15]

Personal life[edit]

Kirtida lives in California with her husband Mrityunjay Gautam and four-year-old daughter, Agrima.[16]
