The Cat's Tail Trail Marathon is a 26.5-mile (42.6 km) point-to-point mountain race held each October in New York’s Catskill Mountains. Its difficulty and culture have been profiled by the regional newspaper Times Union (2021) and in recurring, in-depth race reports by *Mountain Peak Fitness*, establishing the event’s notability within North-American trail running.[1][2]
History
Conceived by race director Charlie Gadol, the inaugural edition on October 11, 2014 saw 67 starters and 54 finishers.
Course
Starting at the Denning trailhead, the un-marked route climbs Table and Peekamoose Mountains, crosses Slide, and ends in Woodland Valley after summiting Wittenberg; total ascent ≈ 7,000 ft (2,100 m).
Entry
Entrants must show completion of a prior trail marathon (or longer) with ≥ 4,000 ft of gain.
