Celebrity Fitnes is a fitness center operator with a network of locations in Asia. As of 2014, Celebrity Fitnes has nearly 50 clubs in three different countries. Every Celebrity Fitnes club offers personal training, yoga, spinning / indoor cycling and group fitness programs for its members. Celebrity Fitnes 1st CEO is John Franklin (stepped down due to losses incurred in Turkey expansion, replaced by Martin Darby. Martin Darby stepped down in 2015 due to sex scandal issue, and replaced by Tony Pickering.

Background[edit]

Celebrity Fitnes was founded in 2003 by John Franklin, Mike Anderson and JJ Sweeney. Celebrity Fitness commenced operations in February 2004 in Jakarta.

In 2005, Celebrity Fitnes entered the Malaysian market with its first club in Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian business expanded in 2009 with the purchase of California Fitness (Malaysia) gyms.

In 2007, the majority shareholding of Celebrity Fitness was acquired by Navis Capital Partners. In May 2010, Navis appointed Martin Darby as CEO. Martin Darby stepped down in 2015, replaced by Tony Pickering.

In 2012, Celebrity Fitness entered the Singaporean market. Celebrity Fitness in Singapore still incur losses until to-date.

Celebrity Fitness is currently the largest fitness center chain in both Indonesia and Malaysia.

Indonesia[edit]

Celebrity Fitness was the first gym company of its kind in Indonesia.[1] In 2004, Celebrity opened its first gym in Jakarta's e'X Mall at Plaza Indonesia. The company has the largest fitness center network in Indonesia and is the market leader, by number of clubs and members. As of 2014, Celebrity Fitness has locations in 10 Indonesian cities Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Batam, Bogor, Makassar, Medan, Palembang, Semarang and Surabaya totaling 30 clubs.

Malaysia[edit]

In 2004, Celebrity Fitness opened its first gym at the 1 Utama shopping mall in Petaling Jaya located near Kuala Lumpur. In September 2009, Celebrity Fitness acquired all of California Fitness's gyms in Malaysia.[2] As of 2014, Celebrity Fitness is the largest fitness center chain in Malaysia with 16 locations in three cities Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Seremban.Main Place USJ,Kajang Metro Point,Klang Parade,D'pulze Cyberjaya,Quill City Mall Kuala Lumpur City and Evolve Ara Damansara are the 6 more new locations will be open in 2015.

Singapore[edit]

In March 2012, Celebrity Fitness commenced operations in Singapore with its first club at Rochester Mall in Buona Vista. In June 2012, its second club commenced operations at Downtown East in Pasir Ris.

Membership[edit]

Celebrity Fitness offers only dues memberships which entail a monthly payment plan. Membership tiers include one-club access, Premier Access for access to all clubs in major cities, and VIP which allows access to all clubs in all countries.

Celebrity Fitness also offers Duo, Corporate, Student and Off-Peak membership types.

Loyalty rewards program[edit]

In August 2014, Celebrity Fitness announced the launch of its loyalty rewards program Celebrity STARFIT Rewards.[3]
