Center for Nonprofit Advancement
The Center for Nonprofit Advancement is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves the non-profit sector in the Washington, DC region. The Center was founded as the Washington Council of Agencies in 1979 and changed its name in 2005.[1][2]
The Center provides training and education on how to manage and maximize resources, shares best practices through networking, advocates for nonprofits on policy issues and negotiates for services and discounts to be offered to its members.[1][3] The Center also partners with The Washington Post to present The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.[4]
Center members are a diverse group of large and small nonprofits serving communities in Greater Washington, across the nation and around the world. Members rely on the Center for:
- Training and technical assistance for leaders and staff at every level to increase performance and the impact of nonprofit services
- Opportunities to network and connect with other nonprofits in the Washington Metropolitan Area, philanthropic, corporate and government sectors.
- Advocacy for government understanding of how nonprofits provide core services that hold communities together and support regional, national, and international efforts.
- High-quality, administrative and management assistance services that help member organizations save money and operate efficiently.
The Center is one of 36 state associations in the USA. With more than 1,000 members in the region, it is open to any 501(c) organization in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Professional & Leadership Development[edit]
The Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s Learning and Leadership Institute offers comprehensive professional development opportunities for the greater Washington area nonprofit community taught by the region's top professionals.
Courses are available on a variety of levels (basic, intermediate and advanced) and on a range of topics (including financial management, fundraising, volunteer management and human resources). Special leadership series designed especial for emerging leaders and executive directors at Washington area nonprofit organizations are also offered annually.

Nonprofit Agenda[edit]
The Center's Nonprofit Agenda is distributed in print and online to executive directors and CEOs of more than 13,000 nonprofit organizations in the greater Washington area (including the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia and Montgomery and Prince George's counties) as well as local policy makers, foundations and corporations. Regular features include nonprofit management information, national and local news, legislative updates, an upcoming calendar of events and a networking column that is available to all members at no charge to announce staff changes and organization news.
