Pride of the Americas is an international organization and festival focused on LGBT+ rights in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. The festival is hosted by different pride organizations in cities throughout the Americas every 2 years with the goal of bringing LGBT+ individuals and communities together in solidarity.
History[edit]
Pride of the Americas was created on October 8, 2017 by the board of Pride Fort Lauderdale, and LGBT+ non-profit organization in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After a failed bid to host WorldPride 2021[1], the organization decided that their message of outreach and inclusion to the LGBT+ people of Central and South America and the Caribbean needed to heard and created Pride of the Americas. On May 17, 2018, a press release[2] announced the inaugural festival is scheduled to be held in April 2020 and named Pride of the Americas 2020 Greater Fort Lauderdale.[1][3][4][5][6][7][8] With significant support for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau, the organizers reported to expect between 300,000 to 350,000 attendees from all over the world.[9][10][11][12]
In October of 2019, the host committee announced over 30 events that will coincide with the event and a call for volunteers from the community.[13][14] Most events were collaborations with local community organizations.
Activities[edit]
Pride of the Americas activities center around LGBT+ issues including cultural diversity, inclusion and education. These activities achieved through the festival and companion conferences.
