The International Society for Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection (ISIPAR)[edit]

The International Society for Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection (ISIPAR) is a research society dedicated to studying interpersonal acceptance and rejection in a worldwide context with over 300 members from all major regions of the globe. The society is a not-for-profit professional organization which promotes multidisciplinary research on the effects of interpersonal acceptance and rejection on children and adults. ISIPAR also seeks to facilitate cooperation among its members in applying their research in policy and clinical practice. The Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection Theory (IPARTheory)[1] is the central tenet of the organization.

History[edit]

ISIPAR was founded in 2006 in Istanbul, Turkey by researchers who were interested in developing a professional organization around research on IPARTheory. The society was created to investigate how acceptance and rejection from significant others (parents, siblings, friends, romantic partners) impacted behavioral outcomes in children and adults around the world. The central office of the society is located at the University of Connecticut, and is run by Ronald P. Rohner, one of the founding members of ISIPAR and the originator of IPARTheory.

Membership and Conference[edit]

ISIPAR is primarily made up of researchers, students, and mental health practitioners. The society is run by a president, secretary treasurer, and a group of regional representatives from North, South, and Central America, East, South East, and South Asia, Oceania, North and Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

The biennial conference run by ISIPAR is called the International Congress on Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection (ICIAR).
