The Central Java Region (Indonesian: Daerah Djawa Tengah) was a federal state (negara bagian) formed on the Indonesian island of Java by the Netherlands in 1949 as part of an attempt to reestablish the colony of the Dutch East Indies during the Indonesian National Revolution.[1] It included the central part of Java island, which now forms part of the current province of Central Java.
The state was established on 2 March 1949 by the governor of the Dutch Central Java. R.V. Sudjito, who was elected regional head of Central Java. The state became a constituent part of the United States of Indonesia in 1949. but the state was disbanded and merged into the Republic of Indonesia on 9 March 1950.
