CertaPet is one of the brands owned by CloudClinic LLC, a telehealth-focused company.[1][2][3][4][5]

History

CertaPet acts as a Medical Services Organization for Licensed Mental Health Professionals (LMHPs). Specifically, for CertaPet, the company provides the software, marketing, billing, and IT support for LMHPs seeking to review and assess people seeking Emotional Support Animals (ESAs).[3][4][5]

Although not Service Animals, Emotional Support Animals are afforded certain protections under federal law related to airline travel and housing.[3][4][5]

Many Emotional Support Animal “registries” exist and give the ESA industry a bad name. There is no such thing as a recognized national registry. Since many people are unaware of this, many scams have jumped up and delegitimize the field. These fake registries will have official-sounding names and charge people to register their emotional support animal. The only legitimate way for an animal to be an Emotional Support Animal is with a written recommendation letter from an LMHP.[1][2]

The LMHPs Fast ESA Letter works with are not incentivized to approve or recommend Emotional Support Animals. They are compensated whether someone is recommended or not.[1][2]

The process involves a short screening based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – 5 cross-cutting symptom analysis. From there, an individual that might be a good candidate fills out a substantial assessment to identify whether they will actually be recommended for an Emotional Support Animal. After reviewing the assessment, the LMHP will reach out to the individual for a verification and expansion on any points requiring additional information or explanation.[1][2]
