Chamikara Spices International (ChaSpi International) is a Sri Lankan-based company, a wholesaler of spices which is headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with three ChaSpi International factories located in Bandarawela, Ratnapura and Kandy. The business was incorporated as a company in 1999. The company is renowned for its organic products.[1]

History

1999-2015: Early history

The company was started as a small-scale local business founded by P.B Rathnayake on November 28, 1999, first located in Bandarawela. It started as a wholesaler of spices and supplied to various areas of Sri Lanka. The first generation of the company laid the foundations for spices in the local market, setting out to create a local market[6] for black pepper.

2015-2018: Start of exporting

Currently, the company is directed by Chamikara Rathnayake, carrying on this business heritage as the second generation of the company, initiated under the current name “ChaSpi International” on October 5, 2015. Factories are located in Bandarawela, Ratnapura and Kandy, and the head office is situated in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

2018-present: Continuing growth

The company includes customers of wholesale foodservice companies as well as many food manufacturers around the world. The Company focuses mainly on spices such as Cinnamon, Pepper, red whole chili, Cardamom, Cloves, Turmeric and Ginger and buys all the spices directly from the farmers.

Products and Services

Chaspi today has a range of products as wholesale and retail brands. These products include whole or ground Ceylon spices[7] including Cinnamon, White & Black Pepper, Clove and Turmeric, and started Cardamom in 2019.

The company also engages in services like blending, home delivering, packing, shipping, research and development, and custom formulation. The company maintains a home delivery system and logistics services to ensure customers around Sri Lanka receive the products continuously on time. The company owns hygienic packaging[8] services; bags and labeling. The R&D team assists in developing new flavors and formulating custom flavors.
