Chad M. Kessler is a former basketball player and current orthopedic surgeon. He played college basketball for University of Georgia from 1984 to 1987. He is the older brother of the late Alec Kessler (1967–2007) who played basketball at the University of Georgia from 1987 to 1990 and in the NBA.[1][2]

Basketball career[edit]

Kessler spent his senior year of high school with Roswell where he averaged 25 points per game and set a single game scoring record with 44 points.[3][2]

Kessler played for the University of Georgia's Bulldogs from 1984 to 1987. During his senior season, where he played with his brother Alec,[4] he averaged 12.0 points per game and led the team in rebounding and field-goal percentage.[1] He was chosen in the fifth round with the 93rd pick overall in the 1987 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers but was one of the final two players cut from the team in the preseason. He then played one season professionally in Australia before returning to his studies in medicine.[1]

Medical career[edit]

Kessler received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where he also completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic residency. After finishing his orthopedic training, Kessler pursued his special interest in spine surgery at the Leatherman Spine Fellowship Program in Louisville, Kentucky. As of 2021, Dr. Kessler is on staff at Georgia Bone and Joint in Newnan, Georgia.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Kessler's sons, Houston and Walker, both played basketball in college.[6][7]
