The Chair Pro Tem of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county government in the absents of the chair. The chair pro tem is the presiding officer for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in the absents of the chair. The board members serve as chair pro tem for one year each on a rotating basis before becoming chair.[1][2] One chair pro tem has called himself the Mayor Pro Tem of Los Angeles County.

History[edit]

The Chair Pro Tem or Mayor Pro Tem of the Board of Supervisors serves a term of one year like Chair/Mayor. Upon the absence of the Mayor/Chair the Chair Pro Tem/Mayor Pro Tem expiration of the term the duties of the Chair/Mayor are rotated among the board members by order of seniority. During his or her term of office, the Chair Pro Tem has the option of calling himself or herself “Mayor Pro Tem”, a practice that was started by Michael D. Antonovich during his tenure as a supervisor like Chair/Mayor. This tradition was not continued by the current incumbents like Chair/Mayor[3][1][4][5]
