The owner started the business as a tea-stall.[1] It became very famous quickly. Daily sales of tea reached nearly 18,000 cups.[1] For making tea very quickly, a kettle of hot water was kept at all times. So it became famous as "bamba ni chai(boiler tea)" in Gujarati.[1] People came from various places to enjoy the delicacy of this famous tea. The owner's next venture was Fafda Jalebi. He started a trend in Ahmedabad to eat Jalebi Fafda on Vijayadashmi festival.[1]
Celebrities
Various celebrities and important persons like Amitabh Bachchan, Kishore Kumar, Gandhiji, Sardar Patel, Indulal Yagnik have also visited this place throughout its 120 years of existence.[1] Four lines from a song "Hu amdavad no rickshawado" from a prominent Gujarati film of Asrani "Ma-Baap" were dedicated to this restaurant.
