Chang Gao is a computer scientist and assistant professor in the Department of Microelectronics at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in The Netherlands. He leads the Lab of Efficient Machine Intelligence (EMI), focusing on energy-efficient digital hardware for artificial intelligence and neuromorphic computing.[1][2]

Career

Gao obtained his Ph.D. with distinction from the Institute of Neuroinformatics at the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich. After postdoctoral research in neuromorphic engineering, he joined TU Delft as an assistant professor in the Electronic Circuits and Architectures (ELCA) group, where he teaches courses in digital VLSI design, mixed-signal circuits, and AI for wireless systems.[1]

Research

Gao’s research focuses on designing energy-efficient digital AI hardware for edge computing, with applications in wireless communication, video and audio processing, and healthcare. His work explores brain-inspired methods to compress and accelerate neural networks for low-power deployment on ASIC and FPGA platforms.[3]
