Chapa is an Ethiopian financial services and payment gateway company headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The company primarily offers payment processing tools and application programming interfaces (APIs) for individuals and businesses.
History[edit]
Ethiopian entrepreneur friends Israel Goytom[1] and Nael Hailemariam founded Chapa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2020. In the same year the company received angel investment from notable Ethiopian business men. In 2021 the company launched its first crowdfunding platform called mygerd in partnership with Zemen Bank S.C and Ethiopian Electric Power to mobilize funds for Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) from Ethiopian diasporas living abroad. The platform was able to collect more than $250,000 in short period of time. In the same year october the company launched the second crowdfunding product Eyezon Ethiopia to help internally displaced people due to the conflict in Ethiopia.
