Charder Electronic Co., Ltd. (JHT; Chinese: 啟德電子) is a Taiwanese manufacturer of measurement devices. It is a key original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for Japanese, European, and American brands in the weighing industry, and has also developed its own professional and consumer brands, specializing in medical scales, height stadiometers, and body composition analyzers.

History[edit]

Charder was founded in 1980 in Taichung, Taiwan, specializing in production of PCB boards and other components for digital scales, before beginning manufacturing of complete scales in 1987[1]. Its primary focus during the first few decades would remain in OEM operations, partnering primarily with Japanese brands to manufacture consumer body fat scales, and European brands in the medical measurement industry.

In 2005, the company began offering products under its own Charder Medical brand in the European medical market, and expanded into the consumer scale market in 2008 under the Oserio brand, with its height stadiometers[2], scales[3], and dynamometers[4] finding use in research worldwide.

In an expansion of product application and usage, Charder announced the launch of a segmental body composition analyzer in 2018, marking a shift towards providing more comprehensive body composition results and preventative care, utilizing artificial neural networks to assist in result calculation[5], and bioelectrical impedance measurements for prediction of muscle function[6].

Products[edit]

Charder's own brand products have primarily been Class III certified weight measurement scales, but also include devices for measurement of height, grip strength, and body composition:
