Charis School of Marikina City (Kharis) is a private Christian school in Marikina, Philippines. Charis School is a non-stock,[1] non-profit coeducational school with approximately 500 pupils,[2] established on February 27, 1997.

History[edit]

The school started in 1976 when its founder, Raquel Delute Baclayon, taught preschool education inside the garage of her home in Marikina, Philippines teaching 4- to 7-year-olds.

In 1991, she was invited to head a church-based Christian school as principal until she built her own school in 1997 with help from her family.

On February 16, 1999, Government Recognition No. P-001 Series of 1999 was awarded to Charis School as an officially Department of Education recognized pre-school. Two years later, in 2001, its elementary program was recognized under Government Recognition No. E-004 Series of 2001.

Six years after it graduated its first elementary students, the school applied for a government permit to operate a secondary school. Pursuant to Philippine Education Act of 1982, Government Permit[3] No. S-0108, Series of 2008 was issued to the school. In June 2008 the school started accepting students for its secondary level course.

Since the death of Raquel Baclayon in 2001, the school has maintained the same Christian values, using a Bible-based curriculum and is one of the private schools in Marikina.
