Charlene McArthur Albarrán is the Utah Democratic Party's candidate for Utah's 2nd Congressional District in the 2016 election cycle. She currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Early life[edit]
Charlene McArthur Albarran was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. She graduated from Pocatello High School and was the 1975 winner of the Miss Idaho USA and the 1977 Miss Idaho pageants. She attended Idaho State University where she studied electrical engineering. In 1977 she transferred to Boise State University where she graduated with high honors and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Statistics. She worked for Idaho Power as a statistical analyst.
Charlene and her husband Roberto have been married for 32 years, and have two sons and two granddaughters.
She is an avid traveler, having visited over 50 different countries,
Professional career[edit]
Charlene and her husband Roberto have lived in Mexico City three times, and she speaks fluent Spanish. She has started three companies, an air filter distribution company, and an acting and modeling agency. She is also a licensed pilot and owned an aviation rental company which was based out of the Salt Lake City Airport.
She currently serves on the board of Budget Rental Car (Mexico franchise) Market Pro SA de CV, and a financial company, as well as several others.[1]
Philanthropy[edit]
She is the founder and past President of Grupo del Valle, started in 2000. This foundation helped over 500 people off the streets in Mexico City. She then started 9 micro business to give them a source of income, and collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to move them to their own home.
She is also founder and past President of a second foundation, R&C Foundation, started in 2009, dedicated to homeless women in Salt Lake City. This was a safe home for victims of domestic violence, as well as, homeless for any other reason. They continued with a lifetime plan, to help them seek employment, and into their own home.”
Congressional Run[edit]
On February 1, 2016, Charlene announced the launch of her campaign[2] to run against Representative Chris Stewart who was elected to Utah's 2nd congressional district in 2012 after Jim Matheson announced his intention to run for the newly created Utah 4th Congressional District.[3] She formally filed with the Utah Lt. Governor's office on March 11, 2016.[4] Her campaign platform is based on Education, Environment, Employment and Affordable Healthcare.[5][6]
