Charles Harold Bernstein

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Charles Harold Bernstein (August 11, 1917 – March 10, 2016[1]) was an American composer.

Biography[2][edit]

Bernstein was born in Los Angeles, United States. He was a child prodigy pianist at the age of nine, performing as a soloist with orchestras. However, due to a serious health problem, his young musical career ended at the age of nineteen; and Bernstein switched to a career in business and commerce.

As music still remained an important form of expression to him e, he studied music theory and later began composing in 1970. This lead him to collaborate with artists such as violinists Yoshiko Nakura (a founding member of the Tokyo String Quartet), Milton Thomas and Adam Korniszewski.

Bernstein did not use nor write music for piano despite starting off as a pianist, instead he composed a wide variety of classical music works ranging from solo to orchestral works, including two operas. His works have been performed in North America and Europe.

He was married to Florence Bernstein and they had a daughter, Valerie Bernstein Stalvey.[1]
