Charles Oronsaye is a Nigerian fashion entrepreneur and the CEO of Africana Couture, a luxury African fashion brand.

Early Life[edit]

Charles Oronsaye was born in Southern Nigeria[1], where he also pursued a law degree at the University of Benin. In the early years, he explored various professions, including music, under the alter ego Tony Cream.[2] His introduction to the creative world occurred through an internship at a local radio station. However, financial challenges, especially after two years of unpaid work at the radio station, led him to transition to the fashion industry with the assistance of his uncle. [1][3]

Career[edit]

Oronsaye began his fashion entrepreneurial journey in 2010 with the business name of Tony Cream Fashion.[3] However, he relocated to Lagos, where he established Africana Couture to cater to the evolving luxury market.[3] Now based in Abuja, the brand initially focused on creating traditional Nigerian attires like kaftans but has expanded to incorporate urban styles and accessories.[4]

Under Oronsaye's leadership, Africana Couture has engaged in ventures such as blockchain technology and collaborations with fashion brands like Mad Ape Designs as well as introducing the first-ever African measurement template.[4]

In 2023, Oronsaye unveiled Africana Couture's first-ever fashion show in Abuja, called "Africana Experience Live" which showcased the "Art of Life" collection.[5]

Philanthropy[edit]

At the Africana Experience Live, Charles Oronsaye announced the birth of the Africana 17 Charitable Foundation, a formal initiative aimed at supporting Nigeria's healthcare sector.[6] Oronsaye also pledged to use the foundation to provide two dialysis machines to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital to support patients of Chronic Kidney Diseases.[7]
