Charlotte Newsham

Charlotte Newsham (born 14 May 2000) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for FA Women's Championship club Blackburn Rovers [1]

Youth career[edit]

Newsham was previously apart of Blackburn Rovers Regional Talent Club.[2] However, she left to join Manchester City's Development Squad during the 2017/18 season, which saw them win the Development League title and cup.[3] After her spell at Manchester City, she went on to become apart of the Manchester United Development Squad, in which she managed to score two goals within six games.[4] One of her milestones while at Manchester United was her first team debut with the Red Devils, which occurred at the pre-season tour in Norway during the 2019/20 season.[1]

International career[edit]

The footballer also has international experience, currently boasting 11 caps for Scotland's U-19 squad.[5] Her debut for the squad was on 5 April 2018 during a 4-1 defeat to Italy.[5]

Club career[edit]

During the 2019-20 season, she was sent out on loan to Huddersfield Town from Manchester United for the remainder of the season.[4] Newsham received first team experience here and had 13 appearances during her time at the club, alongside scoring two goals.[1]

On the 11 August 2020, Newsham was signed by Blackburn Rovers Ladies Football Club on a free transfer from the Red Devils.[1] She expressed her excitement on returning to the club in an interview, stating "I know all about the Club and it’s just great to get back to playing football after lockdown”.[4]

Newsham made her debut for the club in a match against Leicester City Women.[1] The game occurred on the 6 September 2020, and resulted in a 3-0 win for Leicester City.[6] Since then, she has had 11 appearances at the club so far during the 2020-21 season. The player scored her first goal for Blackburn Rovers during a 5-2 defeat against Leicester City in November.[7]
