Chartmetric was founded in 2016 by Sung Cho, headquartered in San Francisco, California, as a startup company.
Playlists are now a primary driver for music discovery. Chartmetric has created a tool for music industry professionals to help them better understand where discovery takes place and how users are interacting with their artists or tracks.
[1]Chartmetric is a self-service tool featuring a dashboard that combines hundreds of thousands of real-time data points across iTunes, Spotify, Youtube, Apple Music, Google, Deezer, SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Currently Chartmetric tracks 1 million Spotify playlists, 700K artists every day, and sends users daily notifications.
[2]After Taylor Swift decided to bypass streaming services and release her music on CD and Vinyl only, Bloomberg reached out to Chartmetric for additional details. “Look What You Made Me Do” set records on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube when it was released in August, but none of her songs are on Today’s Top Hits, a Spotify playlist with more than 18 million followers.
A third song from the new album, “Gorgeous,” was taken off the top hits playlist in eight days, a rarity for a major act, according to Sung Cho, founder and chief executive officer of data analytics company Chartmetric.
Its run on Today’s Top Hits “is one of the shortest lived,” Cho said.
