Cheadle Hulme Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club based in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire. They have five senior teams playing in the ECB Cheshire League Pyramid in addition to four junior teams plus a girls team. The club is one of the most successful in Cheshire with seven Cheshire County Cricket League titles.

History[edit]

Cheadle Hulme Cricket Club was founded in 1881 when they leased a local farmers land to establish a cricket club on Ladybridge Road in Cheadle Hulme. The club became members of the Manchester & District Cricket Association soon after it was formed and over the years various other sections were added including a tennis and bowls club. Cheadle Hulme picked up their first silverware in 1935 when it won the Manchester Association Cup, a feat that was repeated in 1939 when it also opened it's two storey clubhouse. One of the most notable players to represent Cheadle Hulme was Abbas Ali Baig who played for the club in 1958 before being called up to play for the touring Indian team and scored a century on his Test debut.

Cheadle Hulme Cricket Club merged with Manchester Rugby Club in 1967 and moved grounds to Grove Lane in 1969 after selling their original ground to Cheadle and Gatley Urban Council.[1]

Following the move to Grove Lane, the club embarked on its most successful period in the club's history, which stretched from 1977-1984 when the club won the Cheshire County Cricket League 6 times over 8 years, won the Regional Cup 3 times and reached the quarter final of the national cup.

Ground[edit]

Cheadle Hulme Cricket Club was formed in 1881, and previously played on Ladybridge Road before relocating to Grove Park in 1969. The cricket ground is one of the largest in the borough and the site also accommodates Manchester Rugby Club, Grove Park Squash Club, the pavilion and a function room.
