Cheaper Than Therapy is a comedy club located in the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco, CA.
History[edit]
Comedians Scott Simpson, Eloisa Bravo, and Jon Allen founded the club in 2013.[1] In the beginning, they hosted shows in the Purple Onion every second Wednesday of the month. As their audience grew, Jon Allen found Cheaper Than Therapy a new home at Shelton Theater,[2] and they started having shows every Saturday at 10pm.
Venue[edit]
Cheaper Than Therapy has performances in Shelton Theater's main theater every Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 10pm; and Sunday at 7pm. It also celebrated its fifth anniversary in October 2018 by having shows in the cabaret theater on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm.[3] The box office and both bars open an hour prior to showtime to audience members aged 18 and older. The club has no drink minimum. Because of its theater setting, comedians do not use a microphone for performances. After the shows, comedians mingle with the crowd. Line-ups are unannounced, and tickets are sold at a flat rate no matter who performs. Shows also end before the BART and Muni stop running so that audience members can get home on public transportation.[4]
