"Check It" is a song by American recording artist Buddy Man, released independently as a single on May 29, 2026. Self-produced by Buddy Man, the track serves as the bridge between his releases "Set It Off" and "Shoppin Spree". An official music video for the song was released alongside the single.
Background
The origins of "Check It" trace back to multiple unreleased sessions and a lost instrumental. Early conceptual drafts for a track of the same name were originally built around a sample of OutKast's "She Lives in My Lap". Although that version was ultimately scrapped, a spoken intro sample was retained for the final master.
Simultaneously, Buddy Man had another older, unreleased throwaway track also titled "Check It." That demo was originally expected to feature a guest verse from producer Jamal Katari, but the collaboration never materialized. Rather than abandoning the concept, Buddy Man decided to build the track from the ground up using a "lost beat" he had originally produced in 2024, merging the surviving elements of his past drafts into a unified release.
Composition
Clocking in at one minute and forty-two seconds, "Check It" is a trap and hip-hop track driven by a unique "wobble bounce" fusion. The self-produced instrumental combines atmospheric, Pi'erre Bourne-inspired synthesizer melodies with aggressive, high-energy drum patterns reminiscent of producer Nine Vicious. The track opens with the surviving spoken-word sample from the original OutKast-inspired sessions before dropping into the heavy, bounce-oriented percussion.
Recording
Final recording and mixing for the track took place on November 25, 2025. Buddy Man tracked the vocals and finalized the mix using the digital audio workstation BandLab. During these final production stages, Buddy Man retrieved his lost 2024 instrumental and completely reprogrammed the percussion, redoing the drums to achieve the final wobble bounce rhythm heard on the official release.
