Chef Works is a culinary uniform manufacturer and distributor, based in San Diego, California.[1][2] Established in 1964 when Joseph Gross founded a small uniform company in South Africa, Chef Works currently supplies culinary apparel to over 70 countries worldwide, dressing back of house and front of house staffs across a wide range of industries. Products include chef jackets, aprons, shirts, pants and accessories.[3][4]

Overview[edit]

Chef Works reports over $120 million in sales annually, and their warehouse in San Diego county, California, houses almost all operations related to the brand.[2][5] Currently run by the Gross family who founded the stateside iteration of Chef Works in the early 1990’s, the company has been instrumental in pushing culinary uniforms in a fashion-forward direction, launching their now iconic Urban Collection in the spring of 2013.[6][7]

Chef Works is an sponsor of culinary events around the globe.[8] They partnered with the New York Wine & Food Festival, South Beach Wine & Food Festival, Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival, Pebble Beach Food & Wine Festival, Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs, and the All-Star Chef Classic.[4] Non-profit partnerships include eat (RED), Autism Speaks, and the American Liver Foundation, all of which host culinary fundraisers where Chef Works supplies necessary uniform items.[9] Involved in the entertainment industry as well, Chef Works partners with the Life is Beautiful and BottleRock Napa Valley music festival, both of which boast a culinary component. Chef Works is also the uniform sponsor of Top Chef Mexico on Bravo TV and Man vs. Child: Chef Showdown on the FYI Network.[1][5]
