Michele "Chele" Chiavacci Farley (born January 5, 1967) is the endorsed Republican candidate for US Senate from New York.[1] She was born Michele Chiavacci, and has been known under that name in business. She is challenging incumbent Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in the November 6, 2018, general election.[2] Farley's candidacy has also been endorsed by the Conservative and Reform parties.[3] She most recently served as New York City Finance Chair[4] for the state Republican Party after a finance career in the private sector spanning more than 25 years.

Early life and education:[edit]

Farley (née Chiavacci) was born in Boston and raised in Weston, MA. She was raised by her mother, Jane Chiavacci Otto, a retired real estate appraiser, and father, Paul Adrian Chiavacci, a retired electrical engineer, formerly with Raytheon. She is known as “Chele,” short for Michele.

Farley graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in 1988 and a master’s degree in 1991[5], both in industrial engineering[6].

Personal life:[edit]

Chele married Richard Farley, an attorney and partner at law firm Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel.[7] Richard Farley is also the author of both his own book as well as pieces in publications such as the The Wall Street Journal.[8] The couple live in New York City with their three sons.[9]

Private sector work:[edit]

Farley moved to New York in 1988 and has worked for Goldman Sachs, UBS Capital and founded her own company, Mistral Capital International[10], based in New York City, where she also served as partner and managing director.[11]

Philanthropy and community involvement:[edit]

Farley was the Co-Chair of the East Coast Advisory Board of QuestBridge,[12] which partners with 40 colleges and universities such as Stanford and has sent over 10,000 talented low-income students to these schools free of charge.

Political history:[edit]

Farley was appointed by New York State GOP Chairman Ed Cox as the party's New York City Finance Chair on February 1, 2017.[13] On February 1, 2018, she formally announced her challenge to incumbent US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand[14] and was endorsed by former New York Governor George Pataki.[15] On February 26, 2018, she secured the unanimous support of the Conservative Party of New York to be their nominee for US Senate.[16] On March 2, 2018, Farley secured the unanimous nomination of the Republican Party to be their nominee for US Senate.[17] On March 25, 2018, she received the nomination of the Reform Party.[18]

She is running unopposed on the Republican, Conservative and Reform party lines and will face incumbent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in the November 6, 2018 general election.
