Chelsea Cutler (Born February 11, 1997)[1] is an American singer-songwriter from Westport, CT. She got her start writing and producing music while she attended Amherst College.[2] After the success of her single “Your Shirt”,  she released her EP entitled Snow in October in October 2017. In the spring of 2018, Cutler left school to be a supporting act for Quinn XCII on his nationwide tour. Quickly gaining popularity, Cutler began her first headline tour, Sleeping with Roses in the Fall of 2018.[3] On November 9th, 2018 she released her second mixtape, Sleeping with Roses II.[4]

Early Life[edit]

Cutler grew up in the Greater New England area in the town of Westport, CT. Chelsea completed her secondary education at the Pomfret School, a prominent boarding school about 70 miles west of Boston.[5] In High School she excelled at both soccer and lacrosse. During her time in boarding school, she began experimenting with songwriting and music. Upon graduating, she enrolled at Amherst College where she lettered three years on the women’s soccer team.[5]

Career[edit]

(Early Years 2015-2017)[edit]

Cutler began her career as a songwriter for Sony Music while she attended Amherst College as a history major.[2] She started recording songs in her dorm room and uploading them on SoundCloud for her friends. She started uploading acoustic covers, that led to blending the songs into different genres.[6] These covers quickly attracted hundreds of thousands of streams. At 18, she self-released her first songs, “Wake Up” and “Anything for You”.[7] Gaining popularity on SoundCloud, Cutler grabbed attention from other artists and eventually music labels. Cutler signed with Sony affiliate Ultra Records in 2016, and in February 2017, she released her first single “Your Shirt”. [2]

In October 2017, Cutler released her first EP entitled Snow in October. This EP earned her a spot on Refinery29’s list of  “Next Generation Of Music Superstars”, making her a top emerging artist of 2017.[8]

(2018-)[edit]

In the Spring of 2018, she began touring with Quinn XCII as a supporting act, which would have cut into the spring semester of her Junior year of college.[3] Prior to leaving for the Quinn XCII tour, Chelsea left Amherst college to pursue music full-time.[2] With the popularity of Quinn XCII, Jeremy Zucker, and ayokay increasing as well as her own, the label merged under the Visionary Music Group known for managing artists such as Logic and Jon Bellion.[9] In the studio, she worked over the summer with Robopop, who produced hits like Maroon 5’s “Payphone,” and is currently working with Andy Seltzer, whom she describes as her “right-hand man.”[10]

On May 18, 2018, Cutler released her first single “The Reason” to promote her first mixtape Sleeping with Roses. Following “The Reason”, Cutler released “Water on the Bridge” and “Someone Else”.[11] On June 8, 2018, Cutler’s first mixtape Sleeping with Roses was released.[12] On September 7, 2018 Cutler released the first promotional single for Sleeping with Roses II, “Cold Showers”.[13] “Cold Showers” was followed by “AF1s” as the second single promoting the mixtape. On November 9, 2018 Sleeping with Roses II was released.[14] On January 26, 2019 she began her Sleeping with Roses II World Tour and has yet to not sell out a venue in the United States.[15] As of March 2019, she has over 4.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify.[16]

Personal Life[edit]

Cutler currently resides in New York City with her dog, Cooper.[17]
