Cheryl Dee Fergeson (Aug. 10, 1964- Aug. 23, 1980)

Cheryl Fergeson was a Bellville, Texas high school student. On August 23, 1980 she had traveled to Conroe, Texas with her school volleyball team for a scrimmage. Her body was discovered wearing only socks in the loft above the auditorium by two of the school janitors. She had been raped and strangled.[1]

Two days after the murder her clothes were found in a bag in the dumpster. They had what appeared to be mop strings on them.[2]

One of the janitors, Clarence Lee Bradley, was convicted of her rape and murder but was ultimately exonerated when statements made by witnesses were recanted. The defense cited red-blonde pubic hairs found on the body and the medical examiner testified that there might have been two men involved from the pattern of bruises on the body. DNA evidence collected at autopsy as well as the pubic hairs have been lost. [3] Her killer has still not been identified.
