Chetan Pathak (born 26 November) is a British broadcast journalist and television presenter who works for the BBC. He presents sport programs and bulletins on the BBC News Channel, BBC One and internationally on BBC World News.[1]

History[edit]

Pathak was born in the London Borough of Brent. He is of Indian heritage from a Gujarati Hindu family. His parents emigrated to Britain from Uganda and ran a post office and shop. He graduated with a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism from City University, London.[2]

Career[edit]

Pathak joined the BBC on work experience at BBC Three Counties Radio before his first full-time role as a reporter and newsreader at BBC Radio Stoke in 2006.[3]

In 2007 Pathak joined the BBC Asian Network as a sports reporter and later worked as a news presenter.[4][5] Pathak presented the station’s flagship news program Asian Network Reports where he interviewed former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown,[6] former Deputy Labour Leader Tom Watson,[7] and Ela Gandhi, the granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi.[8] The program was nominated for a Radio Academy Award in the Best News and Current Affairs Programme category in 2014.[9] Pathak also presented his own weekly self-titled program at BBC Three Counties Radio.[10] He interviewed Slumdog Millionaire actor Irrfan Khan in 2014 about his work in Hollywood and Bollywood.[11]

Pathak worked as a sports reporter and presented sport bulletins on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio London. In 2013 he interviewed Neil Taylor about his life as one of the few British Asian footballers playing in the Premier League.[12] In 2014 Pathak reported on a hundred South Asian women attending their first football match at Luton Town F.C.[13]

Pathak has also worked as a news reporter at BBC Look North (East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire)[14] and was Communities Correspondent at BBC Look East.[15] Pathak made his first television appearance on BBC Breakfast Television in 2013 reporting on the Hindu festival of Janmashtami at Bhaktivedanta Manor.[16]

Acting and voice-over work[edit]

In 2010 Pathak received a scholarship to train at Oxford School of Drama.[17] In 2011 he played Doctor Yul Siddiq in the British television series Holby City.[18] He also played Doctor Sharma in the final series of Ruth Jones’ comedy-drama Stella, and in 2017 he played Clinton Carrack in the sitcom Porters opposite Sanjeev Bhaskar.[19] Pathak also played the role of a BBC News Anchor in the US drama series Berlin Station. Pathak is a voiceover artist and has narrated audiobooks for Audible and the RNIB.[20][21]
