Chi's Sweet Adventure (こねこのチー Koneko no Chī, Chi the Kitten) is an anime series based on the manga Chi's Sweet Home. It follows the antics of Chi, a small kitten who was taken in by the Yamada family in their apartment.
The series was initially announced in the 22nd and 23rd issues of Weekly Morning in April 2016,[1] then premiered on TV Tokyo under the title Koneko no Chī: Ponpon-rā daibōken (こねこのチー ポンポンらー大冒険 Chi the Kitten: Tummy-Patting Big Adventure) on October 2, 2016 and ran 51 episodes through September 24, 2017. Unlike its predecessor anime, Chi's Sweet Adventure is animated in CGI at Marza Animation Planet.
Plans for a second season were revealed at Japan Expo 2016.[2] The new season began broadcasting under the title Chi's Sweet Adventure Season 2 (こねこのチー ポンポンらー大旅行 Koneko no Chī: Ponpon-rā dairyokō, Chi the Kitten: Tummy-Patting Big Travels) on April 8, 2018, and finished its 25-episode run on September 30, 2018.[3] The series is currently simulcast subtitled into English on Amazon Prime Video, and an English-dubbed version of the first season launched on the service on April 21, 2018.[4]
In the first season, the opening theme is "Nee" (ねぇー, "Hey") by Perfume,[5] and in the second season, the ending theme is "Nyāo!" (にゃーお!, "Meow") by Wi-Fi-5.[6]
List of characters[edit]
Animals[edit]
- Chi (チー Chī)
- Voiced by: Satomi Kōrogi
A small grey kitten approximately two to three months old. She's very energetic and curious about the world around her, and friendly to all of her human owners as well as cats that she meets outside of her home.
- Come-Come (コッチ Kocchi)
- Voiced by: Motoko Kumai
Come-Come is a black and white kitten Chi met in the park one day. He's very stubborn but actually quite shy. When he was young, he and his brother White-White lived in a cardboard box until the latter was taken in by humans. Come-Come stood by his promise to wait for him in the box, and regularly sleeps there as well.
- Blackie (クロいの Kuroino)
- Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama
A big black cat who roams and patrols the neighborhood park. Although he appears very tough and intimidating, he's quite protective of Chi and acts as a guiding figure to her, often giving her lessons to train her feline skills.
- Ann (アン An) and Telly (テリー Terī)
- Voiced by: Fumiko Orikasa and Ryoko Shiraishi, respectively
Chi's siblings who were separated from her. The two of them befriend Chi during the series, but all of them are unaware of their relation. Ann's very stern and doesn't like when the others are causing mischief or causing danger, while Telly is usually indecisive on things and prefers to follow the lead of others.
- Flutter (ヒララ Hirara)
A goldfish sent to the Yamada family by Yohei's cousin Julie. Chi's goal after encountering Flutter for the first time is nothing but to swipe her with her paw, so Chi often gets into antics trying to accomplish this. As a result, Flutter builds a negative feeling towards Chi. Flutter can be a bit violent when humans aren't looking.
Humans[edit]
- Yohei Yamada (山田ヨウヘイ Yamada Yōhei)
- Voiced by: Ryoko Shiraishi
The only child in the Yamada family who has a close bond with Chi. The two like to play and work together. Occasionally, they can get into fights, but always make up afterwards.
- Miwa Yamada (山田ミワ Yamada Miwa)
- Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto
The housewife in the Yamada family. She was involved in a lot of athletic activities when she was younger. Chi admires her ability to "catch prey" (buy groceries).
- Kento Yamada (山田ケント Yamada Kento)
- Voiced by: Makoto Yasumura
The father of the Yamada family who works as a graphic designer. He's very kind and loving towards Chi and regularly updates a scrapbook full of their memories and pictures. Chi's very misunderstanding of him though, and tends to be very annoyed with him unless he's brushing her fur.
- Julie (ジュリ Juri)
- Voiced by: Mariya Ise
Yohei's cousin who lives on a farm. She's used to playing with much more energetic and larger animals, so when playing with Chi, she can be somewhat rough. She's good at winning the trust of animals, though.
