Box Office[edit]
The movie was made on a budget of 3 crores but only managed to collect 2 crores at the box office.[1] This was unexpected because the word of mouth was generally positive. However, Goodachari, which had released along with the film, was a spy thriller and thus pushed this simple romantic entertainer out of many theaters. As a result, Chi La Sow was unable to collect much.[2] The film managed to recover 70% and ended up being below average.
Critical Reception[edit]
Chi La Sow got generally positive reviews from critics, who praised it for its beauty being hidden in merely the simplicity of it all. They also praised it because unlike commercial films, it wasn't a loud film that was there for the sole purpose of entertaining the audience. However, the film was criticized for a little bit of drag in the first half.
Times Of India gave it three stars and wrote, "For those looking for entertainment as understood today, this may not be the film. But if you are someone who is faced with odds, Anjali, nay, Ruhani, will be an inspiration.", saying that the film was unique.
The News Minute wrote, "All in all, Chi La Sow is a movie that subtly underlines the point that it is not here to cater to audiences who want noise, action, overaction. It doesn’t even attempt to do it. It is one of those Linklater-style movies that engage the sensitivity of a thinking audience and rewards them."
The Hindu wrote, "Gently teasing us with fun sequences, the director slips in something deeper that can come in the way of budding relationships, especially when they follow the traditional arranged marriage trajectory when the prospective bride and groom are expected to have a definite answer after a meeting or two. This is where Chi La Sow breaks free of the rom-com mood and talks about relationships that need to have the strength to deal with not-so-rosy life situations with a measure of compassion. Sometimes, it’s neither easy to say ‘yes’ nor walk away with a firm ‘no’."
The New Indian Express wrote, "Overall, Chi La Sow is a movie which treats romance right. It’s a well-balanced, well-written and a heartfelt story that you don’t want to miss."
123telugu gave it 3.25 stars and wrote wrote, "Generally, romantic films are full of dance and fancy romance. But debut director Rahul Ravindran makes things interesting by creating a love story in an unusual situation and shows that how love can blossom with just a few precious moments."
Telugu movie critic Idlebrain Jeevi gave the film three stars and wrote, "Despite a few hiccups, Chi La Sow is a good attempt at delivering a different love story with strong family values!"
Music[edit]
The music was composed by Prashanth R Vihari of Vellipomakey fame. Kittu Vissapragada composed the lyrics for most of the songs, while Sree Sai Kiran did the work for "Mellaga Mellaga". This song was an instant hit upon release and was among the trending songs on Radio Mirchi.
