She was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Chieko Ono was born in Chita-shi (Japan). She is a Japanese citizen and has been living in Italy for 40 years.
She graduated in Japan, worked at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo and won a scholarship from the Italian government.

She has held seminars in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England, USA, Japan and Australia.
Since 1993 she has been the Director of the Italian Historical Dance Company Belreguardo and chairs the Il Convivio Cultural Association, both based in Assisi (PG).

She writes for the magazine Tohoku Art and Culture Society ("Italian dance and art of the Fifteenth Century: art works in movement, Tohoku Art and Culture Society n. 17, 2012).
Activity
She contributed to unveil part of the mysterious and unknown Italian cultural heritage related to the ancient dance. In particular, she laid the foundations for getting to know the Italian Renaissance through the teaching of dance in vogue at the time in Italian courts ("court dances").
The peculiarity of the courses directed by Chieko Ono consists of the presentation of unpublished dances taken from original texts of the XVth Century, whose re-presentation represents an absolute novelty in the artistic field. These dances, which are revealed for the first time, are the result of her research and studies of Italian manuscripts preserved in various libraries in the world such as Perugia, Siena, the Vatican, Paris and New York. In the "books of the art of dance" of the XVth Century technical and practical treatises are preserved with reference to theoretical, choreographic and musical information, codified by the dance masters of the time; from these treatises Chieko Ono managed to rebuild the Italian court dances.
Through her exhibitions performed by the Belreguardo Italian Ancient Dance Company, she managed to combine dance, music and Theatre based on rigid philological research and careful analysis of iconographic sources on Renaissance dance. As stressed several times by her, it is not sufficient to find faithfully reconstructed clothes to maintain and enhance the features of Italian dance of the XVth Century, but it is essential to understand the profound reasons for each movement, for every glance, for every nod made by Dame and Knights. The Company has exhibited and performed in historical places in Italy and abroad, such as the Elztal Museum and the Trompeteschloss in Germany, the Sforza Castle in Milan, Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta, Sala dei Notari in Perugia, Palazzo Trinci in Foligno, Sala della Conciliazione and former Municipal Art Gallery of Assisi and in various museums.
