Chipolo is a Slovenian company that manufactures Bluetooth-enabled tracking devices. The tracking devices can be used to locate lost belongings (such as: bags, wallet, keys etc.) of the users by the use of a mobile application.
History[edit]
Chipolo was founded in 2013 by a group of friends from Slovenia who wanted to create a solution for their own problem of frequently misplacing their belongings.[1][2][3] The team developed the first Chipolo tracking device and launched it on Kickstarter in 2014.[4][5][6]
In 2017, Chipolo partnered with the German electronics company, Bosch to integrate their tracking technology into Bosch's "Smart Home" system.[7]
In April 2019, 4iiii partnered with Chipolo to help in tracking their bikes.[8]
The name "Chipolo" is a portmanteau of the words 'chip' and 'color'.[9]
Function[edit]
The Chipolo devices function by Bluetooth-connecting to a user's smartphone.[10][11] The Chipolo app makes the lost item make a loud noise so that users can find it more easily. The software also has the ability to show a map with the device's most recent position.[12]
All of the Chipolo products have unique functions that are tailored to meet the needs of the user. In order to let consumers attach the gadgets to their belongings.
Funding[edit]
In November 2013, Chipolo launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of their first tracking device. The campaign exceeded its funding goal of $15,000, raising a total of $293,318 from over 5,329 backers.
