Chipolo is a Slovenian company that manufactures Bluetooth-enabled tracking devices. The tracking devices can be used to locate lost belongings (such as bags, wallets, keys, etc.) of the users by the use of a mobile application.

History

Chipolo was founded in 2013 by a group of friends from Slovenia who wanted to create a solution for their own problem of frequently misplacing their belongings.[1][2][3] The team developed the first Chipolo tracking device and launched it on Kickstarter in 2014.[4][5][6]

In 2017, Chipolo partnered with the German electronics company, Bosch, to integrate their tracking technology into Bosch's "Smart Home" system.[7]

In April 2019, 4iiii partnered with Chipolo to help in tracking their bikes.[8]

The name "Chipolo" is a portmanteau of the words 'chip' and 'color'.[9]

Function

The Chipolo devices function by Bluetooth-connecting to a user's smartphone.[10][11] The Chipolo app makes the lost item make a loud noise so that users can find it more easily. The software also has the ability to show a map with the device's most recent position.[12]

All of the Chipolo products have unique functions that are tailored to meet the needs of the user. In order to let consumers attach the gadgets to their belongings.

Funding

In November 2013, Chipolo launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of their first tracking device. The campaign exceeded its funding goal of $15,000, raising a total of $293,318 from over 5,329 backers.
