Chippy Nonstop
Chippy Nonstop (AKA: Chhavi Nanda) is a Canadian artist and musician who lives in Toronto, Ontario. She is best known by her stage name Chippy Nonstop[1][2].
Chippy is a DJ and music producer. [3] She is also an Activist who works on gender disparity issues within the dance music industry. [2]
Born in Dubai, her early years were spent growing up in Zambia, Africa where her father worked for Unilever. After leaving his job, the family moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Chippy later moved to California.[4]
Chippy's musical style is heavily influenced by Bollywood music, which she grew up listening to.[2]
Her debut LP *Chippy Nonstop x dj genderfluid* will be released on April 23, 2021 through the label[5] Wet Trax Records.
Activism
In 2016 Chippy founded Intersessions[6], a DJ’ing workshop for femme, non-binary, and queer people.[7]
“I want these girls to create a community among themselves. There are so many guy DJ crews. Girls need to create their own crews and work together,” Chippy told Now! Magazine’s Kevin Ritchie in April 2016[7].
After the initial workshop, Chippy organized further Intersessions events in Los Angeles, London, and Montreal. [7]
Personal Life
In February 2015 Chippy was deported from the United States[8] after returning to the country via an 11-hour flight from Japan[9]. At the time, her Visa that allowed her to live in the United States had been expired for several months.[10]
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security detained Chippy for several hours at LAX. [10]
“(Homeland Security staff) said I had two minutes to talk to someone and decide where to go—they said either way I'd have to pay for it, so choose wisely. The only two options they gave me were a $300 flight to Vancouver and a $3,000 flight to Japan, so I was like, “Well, I guess I'm going to Vancouver,” Chippy told Drew Millard for Vice Magazine in February 2015.
